Measuring Longies
Measuring Longies
I try to measure my wool soakers as accurately as possible, to help you understand those measurements I will explain how I take the measurements and how you can measure your own child to ensure a perfect fit.
Rise
The rise is the measurement from the back waist, between the legs and up to the front waist. My rise measurement is the actual rise of the longies to the top of the waistband. To find out what rise you need for your child measure a pair of trousers that fit over your usual cloth nappies. Measure from the top of the waistband at the back, between the legs and back up to the top of the waistband at the front. This will give you the rise you require. Alternative you can measure your child. Measure from the waist (above the nappy) at the back, between the legs and up to the waist at the front (above the nappy).
Hips
I take the hip measurement across the width of the body of the longies half way between the waist and the gusset. To find out what hip meausrement you require measure a pair of your childs trousers in the same way or measure your child around the widest part of their hips whilst they are wearing a cloth nappy.
Inside leg
The measurements I give on this website are for the actual inside leg measurement including the gusset, NOT the leg length. I measure the inside leg as you would a pair of trousers, I fold the longies in half and measure from the mid part of the gusset down to the cuff at the bottom of the leg. To find out what inside leg you child needs measure a pair of their trousers in the same way or measure them wearing a cloth nappy from the centre of the nappy between their legs and down the leg to the heel.
Waist
I do not give a waist measurement for my longies as it is adjustable with the drawcord. As a guide the waist will stretch as wide as the hip measurement, due to the ribbing it will naturally be around 2-3" smaller than the hip measurement and can be drawn in up to 6" narrower than the hip measurement.
